A detailed description about Juneau dairy history can be found in a 1991 City and Borough of Juneau "Draft Report of the Juneau Dairy Farming Historic Resources Survey, linked here.
A more specific narrative relating the the Douglas Dairy and Kendler family is written in "Kendlers - The Story of a Pioneer Alaska Juneau Dairy," authored by Mathidle Kendler in 1983. It can be purchased here.
Douglas Dairy was purchased by Joe Kendler in 1917. It operated in an old one-room schoolhouse, which now stands as part of the Gastineau Elementary School in Douglas, Alaska. The small dairy only had 12 cows during their operation. In 1923, Joe purchased the "Alaska Dairy" which consisted of over 300 acres, 9 miles from Douglas in the town of Juneau. At one point, the dairy consisted of over 100 cattle. Joe and other family members managed the dairy until about 1965, when the last of the land sold and Joe moved down to Martha's Lake, Washington.
The glass bottle was found by scuba diver Annette G. E. Smith in Juneau, Alaska while diving. Annette has lived in Alaska for over 60 years.
Please note that the bottle pictured is for reference purposes only and will not be included with your candle. Burn time is a maximum estimate based on proper wick trimming and candle care.
